Elmwood Park man charged with using vehicle as weapon

(CHICAGO) A west suburban man has been charged with intentionally hitting two men with his vehicle early Monday in the Belmont Heights neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Christopher Ramirez, 22, hit the men with his vehicle about 4:20 a.m. while they were standing on a sidewalk in the 3200 block of North Ozark, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

One of the victims, a 31-year-old man, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition, police said. The other man, 30, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was listed in serious condition.

Ramirez drove off and was arrested a short time later by Elmwood Park police, who were notified about the incident by Chicago Police, according to the statement. Three passengers – a male and two females — were in the vehicle with him at the time of the attack, although none of the passengers were charged.

Ramirez and the male passenger were taken to Community First Medical Center, where their conditions were stabilized, police said. The other passengers were not injured.

Ramirez, of the 7300 block of West North Avenue in Elmwood Park, is charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor count of street gang contact by a parolee, police said. He is expected to appear in bond court Wednesday.
