Bicyclist killed in Gary hit-and-run crash

(GARY) A bicyclist who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night in northwest Indiana remains unidentified Thursday.

The man was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle in the 2100 block of Delaware Street in Gary about 9 p.m., according to Gary police Sgt. Thomas Decanter and the Lake County (Ind.) coroner’s office.

He was taken to Methodist Hospital Northlake in Gary, where he was pronounced dead at 10:24 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.

Decanter said witnesses described the vehicle as a newer Chevrolet, but additional details were not available. No one is in custody.

The victim is described as a 5-foot-10, 200-pound black man with gray and black hair, and unshaven stubble on his face, police said.

He was wearing black jeans size 40-x-32, a beige and navy blue extra-large jacket, black windbreaker jacket, black and tan medium Hawaiian shirt with beige leaves, blue plaid boxer shorts, and black and white socks.

He was also wearing a black hat with “Attitude is Everything” in red, and Bandy II Ozark Train brown leather hiking boots in a size 12.

Gary police are investigating.
