Second wrongful death lawsuit filed against Bucktown nightclub

(CHICAGO) The family of a man shot to death outside a Bucktown nightclub last March is suing the club, alleging its negligence led to the shooting.

The suit was filed on behalf of 41-year-old Elijah Moore, one of two men killed in the March 16 shooting outside the Dolphin nightclub at 2200 N. Ashland.

About 3 a.m., a fight broke out inside the club, which has since reopened under the name “Rio Chicago,” police said at the time.

Security guards ordered people out of the club, the suit stated. As Moore stood outside with a group of people, an unknown gunman opened fire and fatally shot him and 35-year-old Deonta Jackson.

The suit stated that “Dolphin knew that their premises was frequented by individuals armed with guns and dangerous weapons.”

The seven-count suit alleges wrongful death seeks an undisclosed amount in damages.

The suit is the second of its kind filed against Dolphin in connection to the shooting.

Calls to the club were not answered Wednesday evening.
