UPDATE: Two dead, one critically injured in HazMat situation near Des Plaines

(MAINE TWP.) Two men were killed and a woman was critically injured in a HazMat situation Thursday afternoon in a home near northwest suburban Des Plaines.

Emergency crews were called to a home on the 9400 block of Harrison Street in Maine Township at about 3:30 p.m., according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.

Hong Kyq Kim, 53, and 83-year-old John Tae Kim, who both lived on the same block as the incident, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Autopsies were scheduled for Friday.

A woman whose age was not available was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in critical condition, according to a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.

Four Cook County sheriff’s deputies suffered minor injuries and were being treated as a precaution after entering the home, according to the spokeswoman. They were released from the hospital in the evening.

The North Maine Fire Protection District responded to the incident, but was not available for comment.
