(FORD HEIGHTS) A traffic stop in south suburban Ford Heights last week ended with gun charges against two people.

About 10:20 p.m. on March 3, Cook County sheriff’s officers stopped a car near 11th Street and Lexington Circle after it disobeyed a stop sign, according to the sheriff’s office. Officers could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Once stopped, officers asked the driver and passenger to get out of the car, police said. The passenger, a 17-year-old boy, ran off but was taken into custody a short time later.

Police found a loaded 9 mm handgun under the front passenger seat, police said.

Rodney Montgomery, 22, of Sauk Village, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, police said. His bond was set at $50,000.

The teen was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and resisting/obstructing an officer, police said. His bond information was not available.
