Lucas Pulls Plug on Chicago, Will Build Museum in California

(CHICAGO) George Lucas has pulled the plug on Chicago as a site for his museum.

Lucas and Mayor Rahm Emanuel blamed Friends of the Parks for filing their lawsuit in the name of lakefront protection. The Friends said it’s unfortunate Lucas didn’t choose another Chicago site that would have been a win-win.

Former Gov. Pat Quinn, who is spearheading a petition drive to place term limits on the position of Chicago’s mayor, said they’re both right.

“Well it’s a free country and I know Mr. Lucas is putting millions of dollars into this,” Quinn said. “I think he’s free to locate it wherever he wishes, but you know there is a principle, that is a good principle, that we protect the lakefront of Chicago. We have done that for decades, hundreds of years, and so those two principles kind of crashed, and you know, I wish him well.”

Lucas says he will now build his museum in California.

Quinn is Bill Cameron’s guest for Connected to Chicago Sunday night at 7.
