Ditka reportedly declines Trump convention invite

(CHICAGO) Presumptive Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump has invited former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka to speak on Trump’s behalf at next month’s Republican convention, but Ditka has now reportedly denied Trump’s offer.

Chicago Sun Times gossip columnist Michael Sneed claims to have set up a three way call between herself, Trump and Ditka, while Ditka was on a North Shore golf course Wednesday afternoon,  in which Trump said “Coach, if you’d like to speak, it would be my great honor.”

However Sneed then claims Ditka responded, “I’m not big into doing things like that”, even though Ditka also said to Trump, “I believe in you and what you are saying.”   Sneed says the phone connection was then lost, but she quotes a source who says Ditka politely declined Trump’s invitation for now.

Bloomberg politics first broke the story that the Trump campaign invited Ditka,  former Indiana Basketball coach Bobby Knight, and former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson to appear at the convention.
Tyson was convicted of raping a beauty pageant contestant in Indiana in the 1990’s, and Trump has been criticized in the past for accepting the boxer’s support.
After the Bloomberg report appeared, Trump went on Twitter to deny he had invited Tyson to appear at the convention.
