Motorcyclist killed in crash with pickup in Homer Glen

(HOMER GLEN) A 57-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a pickup truck Friday night in southwest suburban Homer Glen.

The 26-year-old driver of a Ford F-150 pickup was heading eastbound on Spring Meadows Drive near 179th Street about 6 p.m. Friday when he moved into the westbound lane to avoid a slow-moving vehicle ahead of him, according to the Will County sheriff’s office.

The pickup then struck an oncoming Harley Davidson motorcycle headed westbound on Spring Meadows Drive, according to the sheriff’s office.

The motorcyclist, 57-year-old William Johnson of the 100 block of Fir Street in New Lenox, was ejected from the bike and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he died at 8:50 p.m., authorities said. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and his death was ruled an accident.

A third vehicle, a Buick Century, was involved in the crash and sustained minimal damage. The driver was not injured.

The driver of the pickup, 26-year-old Michael Messer of Matteson, was cited for improper lane usage, driving too fast for conditions and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

The investigation into the crash remains open.
