Trump Not Impressing Gutierrez On Immigration

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO)  Donald Trump is softening his policy on immigration, but it’s not impressing U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Chicago).

Gutierrez is a crusader for immigration reform who says it’s too late for Trump to pivot.

“When you launch your campaign saying that Mexican immigrants are rapists and drug dealers and murderers, I don’t know there a lot you can do to recover,” Gutierrez said.

Here’s what Gutierrez says he thinks Trump is trying to do.

“The new tone on immigration, the new emphasis on Latino and Black outreach and trying not to say outrageously racist and inappropriate things, is an an appeal to a [group] of voters that are in the middle but can’t seen themselves touching the racist button, buffoon button, they just can’t see them do it.”

Gutierrez said so on a press conference call for the pro-immigration reform organization called America’s Voice.
