Wrigley Field “Pink Hat Guy” talks with WLS

(CHICAGO)  With the Chicago Cubs in the World Series for the first time since 1945, viewers of games at Wrigley Field have become used to seeing a man wearing a pink hat sitting in the box seats behind home plate.

His name is Jim Anixter, and he told “The Big John and Ray Show” he is a die-hard fan who always wears the same thing to games, so his wife knows where he is when she’s watching on TV.

“1990, the All-Star game was in Wrigley Field, and the day before was the home-run hitting contest which Ryne Sandberg won.   They passed out pink hats and I wore a pink hat and green shirt because my wife wasn’t a real baseball fan then and I wore green because it goes with the ivy and stands out and so forth, so my wife can see that I’m really at the ballpark.  I’m going on 46 years of a blissful boot camp better known as marriage.”

Listen to Jim Anixter, the “Pink Hat Guy”, on with Big John and Ray on WLS-AM 890.

Anixter is a businessman whose company spends about $200,000 a year on Cubs tickets.      He has owned season tickets since 1966.   He also offers to send fans pink hats of their own if they promise to donate at least $25 to the American Cancer Society.
