Proposal Would Rename I-55 After Obama

(CHICAGO)  There is a proposal being floated in Springfield to name a long portion of I-55 after President Barack Obama.

State Rep. LaShawn Ford (D-Chicago) wants to rename I-55 after Obama from the Tri-State all the way south to East St. Louis. Of course I-55 from Lake Shore Drive to the Tri-State is known as the Stevenson, named after former Illinois Gov. Adlai Stevenson. That name along that stretch would not change.

There is also a bill floating around Springfield that would name the I-294 toll road after Obama, but it hasn’t moved since being filed last month.
