(KINGSFORD HEIGHTS, INDIANA) — When you’re the treasurer of a small town, the temptation to borrow a little here, and a little there must be tremendous.  It is still illegal.

Patricia Arnett is the former treasurer of Kingsford Heights, a small town in LaPorte County.  Today she is charged with two counts of theft.  Indiana State police were called in to investigate in April when the town attorney noticed a problem with the time sheets that were submitted and the actual hours worked.  Patricia Arnett was paid hourly, not on salary.  After reviewing, the two figures did not match up.  The amount of money taken has not been released.

She was taken into custody at her home, and transported to the county jail.  Her bond has been set at $5000.  The 46 year old woman was charged with one count of felony theft, one of felony misdemeanor and felony official misconduct.  She was elected in January of 2016 and resigned this April.
