(CHICAGO) — The Chicago Marathon takes place on Sunday with the first wave of runners to start at 8:30 a.m.

Some 40,000 runners are expected for the 40th running of the marathon which begins and ends on Columbus Drive near grant park.

After the recent events in Las Vegas, Chicago Police plan to have a large undercover presence. Between the runners and the spectators, some one million people could crowd Chicago’s Loop and the 29 city neighborhoods that the race route snakes through.

CPD says well over 1,000 additional officers will be on the streets on Sunday.

The marathon will be broadcast on NBCSN and WMAQ NBC-5.
