Rauner and Ives want to roll back last year’s state income tax hike

(CHICAGO) Governor Bruce Rauner and his March 20th Republican primary challenger, State Represenative Jeanne Ives, actually agree on something big.

Both Rauner and Ives want to eliminate last year’s state income tax hike from 3.75% up to just shy of 5%. Both concede tho that it can’t be done all at once. Ives says it would take some years.

“We’re gonna step-down,” Rauner responded, “it’ll take a few years, and put more money in education and shrink the wasteful spending in government and close the deficit. We’ve had a deficit for years and even after a tax hike, financially irresponsible.”

On the other hand, Democrats running for governor favor a progressive income tax: the more you earn the greater percentage you pay.
