Feds are looking into hundreds of reports of fires in vehicles made by two automakers. It is the step taken before determining whether a recall needs to be issued.  A federal investigation has been opened after more than 400 fires have been reported in Kia and Hyundai vehicles.

The cause of the flames is believed to be connected to engine failures something that, as Mark Bilek of the Chicago Automobile Trade Association explains, has already prompted an earlier recall on Kia and Hyundai cars from the 2011 through the 2014 model years.

“There is an open recall out for more than a million Kia and Hyundai vehicles. So, owners should definitely get those recalls fixed as quickly as possible especially when it’s engine related.   If you get that notice in the mail you can always call your Hyundai or Kia dealer, as well,  and give them your VIN number and see if that car is under recall, ” said Bilek.

We talk about the recall on this week’s “Drive Chicago”as well as discussing drowsy driving with a Ford engineer and we review the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Minivan.   You can listen to it all on WLS-AM 890, at 8am Saturday.
