ISP request after construction worker is killed

(CHICAGO)  Illinois State Police are making a request after the death last weekend of a construction worker on Interstate-294.

Frank Caputo was a flagger and was working on the Tri-State Tollway, in the Rosemont area Friday night, when he was struck and killed by a vehicle.

Civil engineer Mike Wiater was also in that work zone and said he witnessed what could have been another accident due to a driver going to fast in a closed lane.  “We all feel very lucky to be standing here right now because we were very close to getting hit, too,” said Water.

State police and the Illinois Tollway are asking drivers to report unsafe driving by calling *999.

“We need those responsible drivers who are sitting in work zones to report those who go around barriers and ignore lane restrictions,” said Illinois Tollway Board Chairman Bob Schillerstrom.

Authorities say the driver who struck and killed Caputo was treated for minor injuries and police are still investigating the crash.
