California Fire Upgraded to Deadliest in State’s History

The death toll in what’s now being called the deadliest fire in California’s history has risen to 42.

While that figure ties the state’s record for most deaths in a single fire, officials predict it will rise dramatically as crews continue to search for victims. Approximately 228 people remain unaccounted for.

Dubbed “the Camp Fire,” the raging inferno has already consumed 117,000 acres, leaving at least 150,000 people homeless. Fire officials say the blaze is 30 percent contained.
