Shooting expected to revive gun control legislation in Springfield

The Mercy Hospital shootings are expected to revive more gun control legislation in Springfield.

Don Harmon, the lead gun control advocate in the state senate, says “we must treat gun violence as the public safety epidemic it truly is rather than accepting it as a fact of life in America.”

On the floor of the senate, he has debated passionately for this.

“A few blocks from my house, kids are getting shot on a regular basis, not just in the City of Chicago but in Oak Park. And I’m lucky! I have colleagues in this chamber with kids who get shot in front of their house. And goddamn it, we do nothing! (slams his desk on his desk) Over and over and over again we do nothing!”

What they may do soon is override Gov Rauner’s veto of the gun dealer licensing bill.
