(CHICAGO) Pedro Flores was a Chicago drug trafficker who, along with his twin brother, did business with the Sinaloa drug cartel.
Flores has told a federal jury that he and his brother met face-to-face with the head of that cartel, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman in Mexico in 2005.  He says Guzman hired them to distribute hundreds of thousands of kilos of cocaine in several U.S. cities including Chicago.
Flores says, between 2005 and 2008 he and his brother moved 38 tons of cocaine and returned $800M in cash proceeds back to the Mexican cartel.  The brothers later chose to cooperate with U.S. investigators, even secretly recording conversations with Guzman.
Guzman, who is on trial in New York, has pleaded NOT guilty to drug dealing, murder conspiracy and other charges. If convicted, he faces a mandatory life sentence.
