Here’s the newest way teens are rebelling against their parents. Upon learning that they were never vaccinated, some are running to the doctors to make sure they get their shots.

The uninoculated kids have taken to the internet to not only fact check their anti-vaxxer families, but to learn more about the laws in their states to make their own medical decisions.

Of course, the news is sometimes not well received at home. Upon finding out her 18-year-old son went against her wishes, Jill Wheeler told online science magazine Undark , “It was like him spitting on me”.

Currently, 17 US states allow parents to opt their children out of receiving vaccines for philosophical reasons while all but three allow an exemption on religious grounds, notes The Washington Post .
