Vallas on the attack against Daley

(CHICAGO)  In the race for mayor, Paul Vallas is trying to link Bill Daley to the city’s much-hated parking meter deal negotiated when Daley’s brother was mayor.

Vallas claims that Daley for years has been part of the pay-to-play culture at City Hall. He doesn’t argue Daley’s done anything illegal nor can he make any direct connection between Daley and the 75 year parking meter lease, but he does say this.

“He was head of midwest intergovernmental relations for JP Morgan and JP Morgan openly found a way to invest in the deal.”

And he claims JP Morgan got a piece of the action in the parking meter deal. When I asked the Daley campaign if they’d like to respond, the answer came back “no.”

Later, Jorge Neri, Daley for Mayor Campaign Manager, issued this statement on Paul Vallas’ Press Conference:

“While Paul Vallas’ campaign is focused on spreading falsehoods, Bill is working hard to meet with voters to share his plan for getting guns and gangs off the street, and freezing property taxes in order to keep working families and seniors from leaving the city,” said Jorge Neri, campaign manager. “When asked by reporters what proof he had, he couldn’t produce any. As we near Election Day, candidates should be focused on solving the challenges the city faces. This is nothing more than a publicity stunt.”
