A Virginia woman has been arrested after police say she concealed her mother’s dead body for 44 days inside their home.

After 78-year-old Rosemary Outland died in late December, police say her daughter Jo-Whitney Outland covered the body with more than 50 blankets and filled the room with more than 60 air fresheners to cover up the smell. She sealed off the room with a padlock and wouldn’t let anyone, even family members, into the house.

Outland told police she didn’t notify authorities about her mother’s death because she was afraid of being arrested. She faces felony charges of concealment of a body.
