A self-described white supremacist who ran down a black teen has been sentenced to life in prison.

The sentence, handed down to Oregon resident Russell Courtier on Wednesday, stems from a 2016 incident that began when Courtier got into a fight with 19-year-old Larnell Bruce Jr. outside a convenience store in Gresham. Prosecutors say Bruce tried to run away, but Courtier got into his girlfriend’s Jeep and chased the teen, eventually running him down and killing him. Courtier, now 40, is a member of a white supremacist gang called European Kindred, prosecutors say.

Last month, Courtier’s girlfriend, 37-year-old Colleen Hunt, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on a manslaughter charge for allowing him to use her Jeep. Courtier won’t be eligible for parole for 28 years.
