The California parents who pleaded guilty to torturing their 13 children for years are due to be sentenced on Friday.

David and Louise Turpin of Perris will each be sentenced on 14 of their original 50 felony counts in connection with the case, which police uncovered after one their children managed to escape in January of last year. The girl, 17, told police she’d never finished first grade, she wasn’t allowed to bathe and she and her siblings spent most of the time chained to their beds.

Prosecutors are recommending that each parent receive a 25-year prison sentence.
