Businessman, 5th Grader Among Americans Killed in Sri Lanka Blasts

At least four Americans were among the 290 people killed in the Easter Sunday bombings that rocked Sri Lanka, sources say.

Of the U.S. residents who lost their lives, two have so far been identified. The first is Denver resident Dieter Kowalski, 40, who was visiting the country on a business trip when a bomb exploded at his hotel, People magazine reports. The other has been identified as Kieran Shafritz de Zoysa, a fifth grader from Washington D.C. who was studying in Sri Lanka, officials at Sidwell school confirm.

The explosions were among nine coordinated attacks that occurred Sunday in churches and hotels in the country, killing at least 290 people and leaving 500 injured. A local militant Muslim group is being blamed for the bombings.
