Colleen & Catie’s Picks for Atlantis Bahamas

Colleen
Accommodations – Atlantis Royal Tower. Coral Tower is also a nice but slightly less expensive option.
Restaurants –
Fish – All the fish is fresh and never on ice. By ordering their lionfish, which is an invasive species, you’re actually helping the environment.
Casa D’Angelo – Delicious Italian food, cozy atmosphere
Activities:
Twilight Snorkeling – Get to swim with a giant Manta Ray named Coco. Also swam with fish, sting rays, sharks. Portion of proceeds goes to Blue Project Foundation.
Waterpark – Slides you can go on where you are in the clear slide going past sharks, plus an awesome rapid river!
How to get around – Get an uber or ride service through Atlantis to the resort. If you want to leave the resort and go into downtown Nassau, you can take a cab but it’s expensive ($17 per person, roughly). Try a water taxi (about $2.50 per person each way).
Any other tips? Allow extra time to get through Nassau Airport (at least 3 hours).

Catie
Accommodations – Atlantis – Royal Tower
Restaurant – Chopstix – Delicious Chinese Restaurant on location.
Activities –
Releasing the turtles (Maui and Hawk) – $1200 for the turtle release experience, but a portion goes to Blue Project Foundation. Take you on a boat with the turtles (about 30 min out and back) then you get to release the turtles and snorkel with them.
Sun-up with Sealions at Dolphin Cay (“key”) – A caretaker introduces you to the seal ions (the one we met was Sunshine) then walks you through their morning checkup and routine. Portion of proceeds also go to the Blue Project Foundation.
Airport – Nassau (about twenty-thirty minutes from Atlantis)
How far in advance to book? A couple months ideally
Any other tips?
Atlantis is huge. Plan on some serious walking and make sure to allow time to get from one activity to another.
Be sure to book dinner reservations in advance. They book up quickly!

Be prepared for VAT taxes on all your bills.
Gratuities of 15% are automatically added to each of your food bills. You can tip on top of this but don’t need to.

Check with the restaurants about the portion size. Virgil’s BBQ, for example, had family-style portions. Chop Stix didn’t. You can save money by splitting a large dish.
You can save money on drinks by buying a souvenir glass and bringing it to the refill station.
Consider WhatsApp for staying connected to those with you or back home
Bring more money than you think you’ll need
Bring your own medicines (allergy pills, tums, tylenol, etc.)
You do need your passport!
