Phyllis and Robert Hidden wanted to enjoy a drink and a bite at The Riverside Hotel in Kendal, Cumbria, on July 4th, but instead, they were insulted by the waitstaff.

The U.K. couple noticed that they were labeled “old people” on the receipt they had received, the couple didn’t notice until days later but addressed the appalling message with the hotel.

Phyllis says when her husband pointed out the messaging on the receipt, she was “incensed.”

To add insult to injury, the couple didn’t receive an apology until a month later. The hotel manager issued the apology letter to the Hiddens and expressed that the staff member had been “spoken to” and “no disrespect was intended by the wording.”
