Bali Says Tourists Shouldn’t Worry Over Sex Ban

Heading to Bali for some fun in the sun? Be wary of lowering the shades in your hotel room if you’re not married.

The Indonesian government has considered amending its criminal code to include making extramarital sex illegal and punishable with jail time. The law would not have an exception for visitors.

The Bali Hotels Association has fought back, getting President Joko Widodo to “indefinitely postpone the bill,” says a press release, assuring tourists, “stay calm and continue their activities (or planned activities) as usual”.

In the wake of the proposal, Australia has updated its travel advice for Indonesia.
