Angkor Wat is one of Asia’s most famous tourist attractions. But if you’re planning a visit, here’s an important travel tip – leave your elephant at home.

Angkor Archaeological Park is banning elephant rides at the park starting next year. Officials say elephants belong in their natural habitat and shouldn’t be used for ‘tourism activities’.

Asian elephant populations have dropped by more than 50 percent in the last 30 years, and only about 50,000 remain.

More and more global tourist sites are banning animal-related attractions and many travel sites won’t sell tickets to them.
