(ROMEOVILLE) A Romeoville man who was found guilty of drug-induced homicide was sentenced to 12 years in prison Monday, authorities said.

Benjamin Camunias, 28, was found guilty June 5, according to a statement from the Will County state’s attorney’s office.

Peter Kucinski fatally overdosed on heroin that Camunias delivered to him in 2014, the state’s attorney’s office said.

“Camunias was instrumental in obtaining and providing the heroin that was delivered to Peter Kucinski on Aug. 10, 2014,” the statement said.

Camunias and Amy Shemberger drove to Chicago from Lockport to buy $100 worth of heroin, some of which was given to Kucinski, the statement said.

Prosecutors argued that Camunias was responsible for Kucinski’s death because he was the one who drove to buy the heroin, the statement said.

Shemberger — who was also charged with drug-induced homicide and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance — testified against Camunias at trial, the statement said. Her next court date is scheduled for Aug. 26.

“The message is absolutely clear: If you are responsible for delivering this poison, you’re on the hook for any user who dies from an overdose,” Will County State’s Attorney James W. Glasgow said in the statement.
