Police: 1 dead, 1 wounded in Eisenhower Expressway shooting

(CHICAGO) One male was killed and a female was critically wounded in a shooting Thursday morning on the Eisenhower Expressway in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, police said.

The two victims, whose ages were not immediately known, were shot about 5:30 a.m. on westbound I-290 near Laramie Avenue, according to a statement from Illinois State Police.

They were found a few minutes before 6 a.m. at Flournoy and Lockwood and taken to Stroger Hospital, police said. The male was pronounced dead, and the female was in critical condition. Their ages were not released.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality early Thursday.

Police closed down all westbound I-290 lanes from Independence Avenue until at least 9 a.m. to search for shell casings.
