Karen Lewis stepping down, vows not to be quiet about Rahm

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO) Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis says she’s stepping down and retiring because of her continuing battle with brain cancer, but Bill Cameron says she’s vowing not to be quiet about Mayor Emanuel.

Karen Lewis is vowing to be involved in the campaign for mayor. She says she thinks we can do better than Rahm and she’ll try to get somebody to unseat him.

We know what she thinks of Rahm. Five years ago she said “He is the murder mayor! Look at the murder rate!  He’s murdering schools!  He’s murdering good jobs. He’s murdering housing. I don’t know what else to call him. He’s the murder mayor!”

For his part, the mayor issue a statement today saying he’s “seen firsthand the tenacity and drive that makes Karen Lewis a worthy advocate for Chicago children and teachers, and he claims we’ve grown to admire each other as a friends.”
