(SPRINGFIELD) Gov. Bruce Rauner is officially reopening the Illinois Governor’s Mansion today after a more than two-year renovation funded by private funds.
The roughly $15 million renovation began in early 2015 and covered a lot of repairs and improvements, including a new roof, HVAC system and the addition of a kitchen, an amenity the mansion had been lacking. The building is also now ADA compliant.
The building, which now includes a visitors center, is the third-oldest governor’s residence in the United States.
