(CHICAGO) At Thursday’s Democrat Day at the State Fair in Springfield, Senator Durbin was trying to console fellow Democrats who may be down in the dumps about the success of Donald Trump.

Durbin believes Trump’s got 30% of voters on his side and the Democrats have no hope of winning them over, “We’re not gonna win over the 30%. They’re gone folks. There’s nothing this president could do that could ever discourage them from supporting him. They’ll go right over the cliff if he leads them there. That’s for the 30%, but for the rest, for the majority of this country, the values are rock solid. And the second thing I know we have a constitution. And it says one thing that gives me hope from the start. It says that every two years, it’s our turn.”

Durbin is careful not to predict a blue wave election. Indeed, Trump says there’s a chance for a red wave.
