Chicago City Council approves another tax hike

(CHICAGO) The Chicago City Council has approved yet another tax hike.

This time it’s a big tax increase proposed by Mayor Emanuel and passed by the aldermen in a single day. It’s on e-cigarettes: from 80 cents to a dollar-fifty on vaping devices and a buck-twenty on every fluid millimeter of the liquid nicotine.

Rahm told the aldermen it’ll reduce teen smoking, “Fees and our regulations around tobacco products have prevented teens from ever started smoking and we’re ahead of the schedule as they move to these new products, we actually raise the price and limit their access to these products.”

The aldermen also approved another police misconduct settlement.  $16M because Officer Richard Rialmo accidentally shot and killed innocent bystander Bettie Jones.
