Americans are buying things this summer, with retail spending ticking up in June, according to the Commerce Department.
Retail spending was up 0.4% in June, and 3.4% up over last summer, exceeding projections.
Strong retail sales could be a good sign for the economy, and balance out some of the negative impact from weaker business investment.
