As an early morning blaze began to spread across their Lebanon, Tennessee living room, Louie did his best smoke alarm impression, shouting “fire” to alert his sleeping family.

Speaking to Southwest News Service , Barbara Klein called the pet “a true hero,” admitting that she might have continued snoozing if not for his squawking.

Klein says she can’t recall ever hearing Louie use the word before.
