Newly released modeling from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that more than one-third of COVID-19 cases are asymptomatic, meaning the person doesn’t realize he or she is infected.
Making matters scarier, the federal health agency estimates that 40% of coronavirus transmission is occurring before people feel sick.
Calling figures its “best estimate,” the CDC says that 0.4% of those who show symptoms will die from the virus, with that number increasing to 1.3% if over the age of 65.
However biologist Carl Bergstrom at the University of Washington disagrees with the results, telling CNN , “While most of these numbers are reasonable, the mortality rates shade far too low,” pointing to the deaths in New York City.
