FDA Expands List of Toxic Hand Sanitizers

The Food and Drug Administration has expanded upon its previous hand sanitizer warning, adding dozens of brands to its list of potentially toxic products.

The FDA has now identified a total of 76 types of hand sanitizers that have tested positive for methanol, which can be toxic when absorbed through the skin. All 76 were produced in Mexico, according to the FDA. “Substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death,” according to a statement released by the agency.
