Former Top Cop: Police Foot Pursuit Policy Doesn’t Exist

(CHICAGO) — There have been calls by the mayor and others in Chicago for a review of police foot pursuit policies but one former police superintendent says there isn’t such a policy in place.

Garry McCarthy tells the Bruce St. James show on WLS AM-890 that there is no policy on the books at CPD that specifically covers foot chases.

“The question I have is what would a foot pursuit policy say? I’m pretty confused about it myself,” McCarthy said. He adds that he’s unsure such a policy could make an impact.

The call for reviews of police policy comes in response to a 13-year-old boy who was shot by police who were pursuing the teen and another suspect.

A gun was recovered at the scene. An investigation continues.
