(CHICAGO) — Sources tell WLS that 29-year-old Ella French was a former student of Downers Grove North High School.
French has been with CPD since April 2018 and is the first Chicago police officer shot and killed in the line of duty since Mayor Lori Lightfoot took office. Another officer also suffered gunshot wounds and is in critical condition.
The shooting happened during a traffic stop around 9 p.m. Saturday in the 6300-block of South Bell Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood.
A third suspect wanted in the killing of French was taken into custody Sunday morning. She and two other suspects were being questioned by investigators Sunday.
