Chicago issuing cooling reminder

The city of Chicago has released a reminder that as the temperatures climb higher, some buildings are required to protect all residents with an air conditioning unit or a cool central area.

Those buildings include housing for older people, buildings with one-hundred or more apartments, and buildings taller than 80 feet. The rules go into effect once the heat index exceeds 80 degrees.

The city also wants to remind residents that they can call 3-1-1 to report a violation, or to find the nearest cooling center.
