Bailey Tired of Career Politicians, Reason for Run

(CHICAGO) — Former State Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) is explaining why he is taking on an incumbent in a Downstate congressional district.

The former Republican Gubernatorial candidate tells WLS-AM 890 that he is taking on U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro) in the 12th congressional district because he is tired of career politicians. He says Bost is one of them.

“These people burrow in like ticks and they decide they want to make a career out of this,” Bailey said. “So here you have a 30-year career politician and at the end of the day you simply ask yourself, ‘OK, what’s he known for? When did he really take the fight for the people? Did he stand up and sue [Gov.] JB Pritzker when I did? Did he stand up against the mask mandate when I did? Is he currently standing up and calling out the problems?’ No he’s not.”

The 12th District is heavily Republican with Bost winning the 2022 general election with 75-percent of the vote against a Democrat challenger. Bailey lost his bid to unseat Pritzker in 2022 by a little more than 514,000 votes.
