(CHICAGO) — A former Illinois congressman isn’t very optimistic when it comes to lawmakers on Capitol Hill making a deal.
Former Democrat Congressman Dan Lipinski tells The Steve Cochran Show on WLS-AM 890 that he believes a shutdown is likely.
“I think the most important thing for people to realize right now is the House Republicans cannot get anything passed and even if they to finally come together and pass something this week, it’s not anything that going to be accepted by the Senate,” Lipinski said. “So the Republicans right now in the House are fighting over something that is DOA in the Senate. So I don’t see any possible way the government does not shut down this weekend.”
Lipinski adds that he does not believe there is much room for give and take and that Republicans will ultimately have to agree to Democrat spending.
