A new round of protests erupted in Phoenix over the weekend after police officers were caught on video fatally shooting a man sitting in a parked car.

The incident occurred Saturday after police received a call from someone who said James Garcia had threatened him with a knife, according to the Phoenix P.D. Investigating officers found Garcia sitting in his car, which was parked in his driveway. When they asked him to step out of the vehicle, “he refused, instead … arming himself with a handgun,” an incident report reveals. Police say Garcia then pointed the gun at an officer, prompting two cops to open fire. Garcia was killed.
