Speaker: Mayorkas Impeachment Articles to Senate Soon

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said Thursday that haggling over the government funding packages has resulted in a delay in delivering articles of impeachment for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate for a trial.

The House voted 214-213 on Feb. 13 to impeach Mayorkas for failure to secure the southern border. The articles cite his willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and his breach of the public trust. But they must be delivered to the Senate for a trial to take place.

“The reason for it is because we’re in the middle of funding the government in the appropriations process and the way the procedure works is once the articles of impeachment are transmitted to the Senate, we have a short window within which to process them,” Johnson told reporters Thursday at the House GOP retreat in West Virginia, according to the Daily Mail.
