Alderman Bob Fioretti has a new proposal to fight crime

(Chicago)  In the campaign for mayor, challenger Bob Fioretti has a new proposal to fight crime.

500 more cops is Fioretti’s promise.  It is a 55 million dollar item he says he would pay for with cuts to city contracts and TIFs, those controversial property tax diversions for developers.  Fioretti says people are sick of all the crime, “People are fed up!  Wherever I go I hear it. I’ve heard it from parents, guardians, grandmothers.  I was at a funeral on Sunday and they were talking about the ongoing crime problem in this city.”

But City Hall says overall crime is down in Chicago.
