Bicyclist struck by SUV, critically injured in Bridgeport

(CHICAGO) A man was critically injured Monday afternoon when he was struck by an SUV in the Bridgeport neighborhood on the South Side.

Joshua Thomas, 26, was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango in the 3500 block of South Lowe Avenue about 6 p.m. when he made a U-turn and struck a bicyclist, according to Chicago Police.

The bicyclist, a 47-year-old man, was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said, adding that he suffered a fractured pelvis.

Thomas, who lives in the 6200 block of South King Drive, was charged with reckless driving, driving on a revoked license and operating an uninsured vehicle, all misdemeanors, police said. He was also issued traffic citations for failure to exercise due care for a pedestrian in the roadway, failure to stay in his lane and executing an improper U-turn. He is scheduled to appear in traffic court June 21.

Police: Man found shot to death in Bridgeport

(CHICAGO) A man was found shot to death early Thursday in the Bridgeport neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

Officers found the man, 20, unresponsive on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest about 3 a.m. in the 1200 block of West 32nd Street, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.

He was dead at the scene, Gaines said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not confirm the death early Thursday.
