Lockdown lifted at Geneva hospital after report of armed intruder

(GENEVA)  A “hard lockdown” was in place for about an hour at a west suburban hospital Tuesday morning after an armed man threatened a visitor.

The man entered Delnor Hospital in Geneva about 10 a.m. and made the threat while holding a non-firearm weapon, hospital spokesman Chris King said. Police were called and the hospital was immediately put on lockdown, he said.

The lockdown was lifted about 11 a.m. after police confirmed the man had left the hospital campus, King said. No one was injured, and the hospital was operating normally as of 11:40 a.m.

A “soft lockdown” remained in place at nearby Williamsburg and Heartland elementary schools as police continue to search for the man, according to the city of Geneva website.

The hospital is located at 300 Randall Rd.; Williamsburg Elementary is at 1812 Williamsburg Ave.; and Heartland is at 3300 Heartland Dr.

Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
