Overnight lane closures on I-90 to begin Monday

(DOWNERS GROVE) Overnight lane closures on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) and on South Meacham Road in Schaumburg will begin Monday to install new bridge beams.

Weather permitting, overnight lane closures will be scheduled over five nights from Feb. 15 to Feb. 22, according to a statement from the Illinois Tollway.

On eastbound I-90 at Meacham, one lane will close at 8 p.m., and a second lane will close at 10 p.m. with intermittent full lane closures lasting 15 minutes between 11:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m., the tollway said.

On westbound I-90, one lane will close at 10 p.m. and a second lane will close at 11 p.m., with traffic shifting to the right, the tollway said. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m.

On South Meacham Road, one lane in both directions will close at 8 p.m. and reopen by 7 a.m., the tollway said. Traffic will travel on the new southbound side of the bridge while the new northbound side of the bridge is being built.

The bridge will remain open to pedestrians during construction, according to the tollway.

Ramp improvement project coming to Tri-State, Jane Addams interchange near O’Hare

(ROSEMONT) Construction begins Wednesday to repair ramps that are part of the Tri-State Tollway and Jane Addams Memorial Tollway interchange near O’Hare Airport.

The project is part of a $2.5 billion plan to widen and rebuild the Jane Addams (I-90), according to the Illinois Tollway.

The ramps connecting eastbound I-90 to the northbound and southbound Tri-State (I-294) will be reconstructed, as will a ramp connecting eastbound I-90 to O’Hare Airport, the tollway said.

All of the ramps will remain open during construction, but traffic will be shifted starting Wednesday to accommodate work zones, the tollway said.

Work will wrap up by the end of the year. Planned improvements include new concrete pavement, new asphalt shoulders, and new guardrails, lighting and drainage systems, the tollway said.

A 45 mph speed limit will be in place during construction, and drivers would look out for changing traffic patterns, the tollway said.

Overnight lane closures begin for bridge painting near Tri-State, Jane Addams interchange

(ROSEMONT) Two weeks of overnight lane closures begin Tuesday on the Tri-State Tollway near Rosemont as crews prepare for a bridge painting project.

One southbound lane of the Tri-State (I-294) between at the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) and Touhy Avenue will close at 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a second lane closing at 9 p.m., the tollway said. A third lane will close at midnight.

All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday for the morning rush, the tollway said.

The lane closures will allow crews to install a platform system connected to the underside of a bridge that workers will be painting, the tollway said.

Similar closures will take place over the next two weeks between Lawrence Avenue and I-90.

The painting project will last about a month, and require another set of roadway closures to remove the platform system when crews have finished, the tollway said.

Construction begins for bridge on Illinois Route 72 near I-90

(GILBERTS) Work on the Illinois Route 72 Bridge carrying traffic over the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway in Gilberts is scheduled to begin Monday to prepare for removal and reconstruction as part of the I-90 Rebuilding and Widening Project.

The Higgins Road Bridge will remain open, the Illinois Department of Transportation said. However, the bridge will be reduced to one lane over I-90 with traffic in both directions controlled by traffic signals during construction.

About 16,000 vehicles use this bridge daily, IDOT said.

Because the Higgins Road Bridge is a two-lane bridge, only one lane will be available to traffic during construction. Traffic signals will be used to control access for eastbound and westbound traffic using the single open lane in order to keep the bridge open during construction, IDOT said.

The temporary traffic signals are scheduled to be in place by late May, and construction will start on the westbound side of the bridge with all traffic traveling on the eastbound side of the bridge. The westbound side of the bridge is scheduled to reopen by late summer, and work will begin on the eastbound side of the bridge.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.

Jane Addams bridge work to close Mannheim lanes overnight

(ROSEMONT) Bridge construction on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway will cause lane closures Wednesday night on Mannheim Road in northwest suburban Rosemont.

One lane in each direction will be closed after 7 p.m. on Mannheim under Interstate 90 as work begins to rebuild the bridge carrying the interstate over local roads, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Intermittent full closures – which will last no longer than 15 minutes each – will begin after 10 p.m. to allow for the removal of bridge beams, IDOT said. All lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday ahead of the morning commute.

Similar closures are scheduled to begin on Touhy Avenue in Rosemont and Higgins Road in Des Plaines the week of April 13, according to IDOT. The daily overnight closures will be in effect throughout the week in addition to daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
